A quick tutorial on plugging everything into your computer... monitor, keyboard, mouse, and Promethean board.

ok, a quick lesson on getting my computer plugged in, I'm going to start on the left side of the keyboard if you have an older keyboard, like that the key part is going to go on the top toggle it in If you're computer's turned on when you do that, your keyboard will not work it off and then try again That has to be plugged in before you turn the computer on with Windows If you have a newer keyboard USB, like this, go into the first plug you find on that side, sometimes right here or right here the USB symbol is on the top of the cable it goes in right there you should next go with the mouse find your mouse plug, USB as well plug it in somewhere near the keyboard Next, I've got a network cable to get on the Internet Other end of this cable should be plugged into the wall the jack is usually marked with an X or check mark so that I know it's active when I plug it in right there If the other end's already plugged in (to wall jack) I should see lights flashing here Ok, the video cable On my video (VGA) cable one end is plugged into my monitor most of you have a blue cable like this, some will have a different cable that's white (DVI) that plugs into the port next to it This cable goes from my monitor to the back of my computer You'll notice there's only one way for it to go in case if I have a plug here I'm going to plug in here. Some of you will have another connection on this side like this computer If you've got a connection on this side right here, I'm going to use this one If there's one standing up away from the others, that's a separate card an add-in card, then use that connection If there's not one, then go into the one that's closest to the keyboard connections So on this sample computer I'm going to go in right there Twist in and make sure it's good and tight don't over-tighten or the screws will come out when you take it out later Last thing, the power cord. Make sure the power cord is plugged in I plug it in last because that way I know every thing is already plugged in. Now, if I'm going to connect my Promethean board If I have an old style Promethean board and I'm going through a splitter, like this one For a lot of the older boards you'll have the splitter somewhere in your collection In that case the cable that goes from my computer is not going straight to my monitor it's gonna go to the box (Video IN) into the plug that's by itself I've got 2 sitting over to the side So, my VIDEO IN has to be coming directly from my computer Connect it. Tighten down the screws On the other side where I have 2 plugs I'm going to take the other video cable I'm gonna run that cable to my monitor Plug up in there and tighten down on both sides The other thing you want to check on your monitor ... is to make sure the power cord is all the way in there. Shake it back and forth see if it's loose - it should go all the way in So, I've got a cable coming from my computer to the Box, by itself and I've got a cable going from the side to my monitor So of course the other one is going to my Promethean board My board will have a cable that looks similar may be a different color. It's going to go into that other one tighten down the screws so it doesn't come off From the computer to the box Then the two that split off one goes to my monitor one goes to the Promethean board Except for one thing ... some times the power cord - you'll see that little jack, right there sometimes this box needs power, some cases it doesn't but if I plug that in most of the time that's going to light everything up So, if you're not getting any power or not getting a picture plug this box in It goes to a little wall jack looks something like this plug this into power plug it into the back - good to go There's 2 more cables coming from the Promethean board, in most cases a USB cable, and possibly an audio cable You may only have a USB just like the other USB devices Plug into the board Audio in almost every case, goes into the green Audio to GREEN Hopefully that will get you going Good luck!
